Professor Russell Pierre of The University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, works in the Department of Child Health and Adolescent Health, Faculty of Medical Sciences. He however, dedicates a part of his time to the We ‘R’ Kids private practice where he enjoys strong doctor-patient bonds. He balances his role as an academic and medical educator at UWI, as he continues to mentor the next generation of doctors and paediatricians in Jamaica (and the Caribbean). With his love and passion for children and their caregivers, he takes great pleasure in meeting their health needs. At We ‘R’ Kids, he is an ever-present reminder of the need for continuous education and research towards advancing paediatric care. His compassion and dedication to the welfare of families and their kids, is a real complement to his wealth of experience.
Professor Pierre holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree (1983), the Advanced Diploma in Child Health (DCH) (1986), the Doctor of Medicine (DM) degree in Paediatrics (1992) as well as a Masters degree in Public Health (2001). He also holds a Fellowship in Critical Care Paediatrics from University of Bristol, UK. He has distinguished himself in the areas of research, publication, medical education and administration. He has made significant contributions in the area of Paediatric Infectious Diseases and his efforts, in collaboration with key partners, are influencing public health not only in Jamaica, but the wider Caribbean Region and internationally by virtue of being an example of best practice. Much of his work has been documented in over 35 papers and 40 abstracts in local, regional and international journals.
